WORKS IN

It connects in 2 minutes.

  1. Use the right ContextBolt account Use the email on your active ContextBolt SEO trial or subscription. Signing in does not buy another plan or change your credits.
  2. Add a custom connector In Claude Settings, open Connectors and add a custom connector using https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp. Leave every option below the URL as Claude sets it, including the OAuth client, and press Add. Use the remote Connectors UI, not claude_desktop_config.json. Availability depends on your Claude account and workspace.
  3. Sign in and approve Sign in on the ContextBolt page with your SEO subscription email, enter the email code, and approve the connection.
  4. Check the connection Start a fresh chat or session and ask what SEO tools are available. Your current credits and saved research belong to the same account as before.
  5. Connect Search Console if you want it Google Search Console is a separate, optional read-only connection. Ask your agent to connect it and approve the Google prompt. Existing Search Console connections are unchanged, and old SEO Dashboard links now open the sign-in page first.

Then ask it something real.

“What keywords should a small accounting firm target?” Claude calls keyword_research and returns related terms with volume, difficulty, and intent, so you get a content shortlist without opening a dashboard.
“How hard is 'project management software' to rank for?” Runs keyword_difficulty and returns a score out of 100 with context, so you know whether the term is worth chasing before you commit.
“Who ranks in the top 10 for 'best crm for startups'?” Calls serp_overview and breaks down the live page-one results, so you can see the format and the players you are up against.
“How is notion.so doing on SEO, and what does it rank for?” Chains domain_overview and ranked_keywords for a quick read on a competitor's organic footprint and their biggest traffic pages.

  • Connect your own Google Search Console, read-only and free
  • Get answers that lead with what changed since your last lookup
  • Get a private SEO Dashboard that fills itself with your research, free

The longer story.

Connect with OAuth. Use https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp, then sign in with your SEO subscription email, enter the email code, and approve access. Existing personal URLs still work for older clients. Full setup and recovery help.

Claude Desktop is Anthropic’s GUI app for Claude on Mac and Windows. It supports custom connectors, which means you can plug in ContextBolt SEO and ask for live keyword, SERP, domain, and competitor data in the same chat where you already think out loud, no terminal required.

This is the easiest way to get SEO data into Claude if you do not live in a code editor. There is no config file. Add the shared URL in Connectors, complete OAuth sign-in with your SEO account email, and enable the connection in your chat.

Claude fills in the options below the URL for you and marks them Detected, so leave them alone and press Add. One is worth naming. Claude offers Use Anthropic’s hosted client metadata and labels it Recommended, but our server does not support it, so keep whichever option Claude selected.

Why the GUI works for SEO

A lot of SEO work is thinking, not coding. You are weighing whether a topic is worth it, who already owns it, and where the gap is. Claude Desktop is built for exactly that back-and-forth. Ask a question in plain English, get the numbers inline, then ask the follow-up. “Now show me who ranks for it” or “which of these is easiest?” keeps the thread, and Claude calls more tools as needed.

Because these are MCP tools, Claude chains them. One question like “find me five low-difficulty keywords in the home fitness space and tell me who ranks for each” becomes a single answer instead of five dashboard lookups.

Claude.ai in the browser

The same custom connector works on Claude.ai in the browser. One quirk to expect: web connectors are referenced by an internal ID, so a tool call may display a UUID instead of the name you chose. It is cosmetic and changes nothing about the results. Research saves to your account either way, so the dashboard reads the same here as it does in Claude Code or Cursor. The full tour of tools and workflows is in the ContextBolt SEO guide.

Common questions.

Is this the same as a config-file MCP setup?

Claude Desktop uses the remote Connectors UI. Add the shared URL, leave the options Claude fills in below it, and press Add. Then sign in with your SEO account email, enter the email code, and approve the connection. Do not switch to Use Anthropic's hosted client metadata, which our server does not support. There is no local JSON file to edit.

Why does the tool pill show a code instead of 'ContextBolt SEO' on the web?

On Claude.ai in the browser, custom connectors are referenced by an internal connector ID, so the tool call can show a UUID rather than the friendly name you set. It is cosmetic. The Claude Desktop app shows the name you chose.

Does the memory work the same in Claude Desktop?

Everywhere, and identically. Research saves to your account and shows on your SEO Dashboard, so recalled research and 'what changed' deltas work the same in Claude Desktop as in Claude Code. Nothing depends on the client being able to write files.

How many credits does a question cost?

Research tools cost one credit each. Backlink tools cost three each. The plan includes 1,000 a month, top-ups never expire, and checking your balance is always free.

Can I use it for client work?

Yes. Research any domain, yours or a client's, on one subscription with no per-seat fees. Tell Claude which site is yours in the chat and it uses that for the rest of the conversation.
