WORKS IN

It connects in 2 minutes.

  1. Use the right ContextBolt account Use the email on your active ContextBolt SEO trial or subscription. Signing in does not buy another plan or change your credits.
  2. Add the remote server Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user contextbolt-seo https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp. The user scope makes it available across projects.
  3. Authenticate in Claude Code Open /mcp in an interactive Claude Code session, select contextbolt-seo, and authenticate. Sign in on the ContextBolt page with your SEO subscription email, enter the email code, and approve the connection.
  4. Check the connection Start a fresh chat or session and ask what SEO tools are available. Your current credits and saved research belong to the same account as before.
  5. Connect Search Console if you want it Google Search Console is a separate, optional read-only connection. Ask your agent to connect it and approve the Google prompt. Existing Search Console connections are unchanged, and old SEO Dashboard links now open the sign-in page first.

Then ask it something real.

“I'm building an AI note-taker. What keywords should it rank for?” Claude Code calls keyword_research and returns related terms with volume, difficulty, and intent, so you can plan content without leaving the terminal.
“How hard is it to rank for 'ai meeting notes', and who's in the top 10?” Chains keyword_difficulty and serp_overview in one prompt. You get a difficulty score and the live page-one results to model your post on.
“What does otter.ai already rank for, and who else competes for those terms?” Runs ranked_keywords then competitor_keywords. A ready-made content map plus the rivals you would never have named off the top of your head.
“Who links to fireflies.ai but not to my site?” Calls backlink_gap and hands back a spam-scored prospect list, a ready-made outreach shortlist. Backlink calls cost three credits each.

What it can do in Claude Code.

  • Run keyword research in plain English, no query builder
  • Score how hard a keyword is to rank for before you write
  • See who ranks in Google's top 10 for any query
  • Size up any domain's traffic, keywords, and authority
  • Find the keywords a competitor already ranks for
  • Spot backlink gaps: who links to rivals but not you
  • Connect your own Google Search Console, read-only and free
  • Get a private SEO Dashboard that fills itself with your research, free

The longer story.

Connect with OAuth. Use https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp, then sign in with your SEO subscription email, enter the email code, and approve access. Existing personal URLs still work for older clients. Full setup and recovery help.

Claude Code is Anthropic’s command-line interface for Claude. It runs in your terminal, reads your codebase, and can use MCP servers to connect to external tools and data, including live SEO research from ContextBolt SEO.

This is the integration where ContextBolt SEO is at its best, because Claude Code can act on what it finds. It audits a page and edits it in the same session. Every keyword, SERP, domain and competitor lookup you run lands on your SEO Dashboard, a private page you can open from any machine, so the research builds up instead of vanishing into the chat.

Why SEO data belongs in your terminal

If you are shipping a site or an app, you are already in the terminal. Asking “how hard is it to rank for this, and who’s already there?” without switching to a dashboard keeps you in flow. Claude Code calls the right tool, returns the numbers inline, and keeps them on your dashboard so next week’s question starts from what you already know instead of from scratch.

Because these are MCP tools, Claude Code chains them. “Find ten low-difficulty keywords around home espresso, check which ones my competitor already ranks for, and tell me the gaps” is one prompt, not ten dashboard sessions.

Config file alternative

If you prefer editing config directly, add ContextBolt SEO to .mcp.json in your project root:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "contextbolt-seo": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Keep "type": "http" for this remote server. After saving the config, open /mcp in Claude Code and authenticate ContextBolt SEO. The shared URL is not a secret. If you use the older personal-URL option instead, keep that private URL out of shared files. The full setup, tools, and workflows are in the ContextBolt SEO guide.

Common questions.

Do I need Node.js or anything installed?

No. ContextBolt SEO is a hosted server. Claude Code talks to it over HTTPS, so there is no npx, no Node.js dependency, and no process running on your machine. You only need Claude Code and your MCP URL.

Where does my research get saved?

To your ContextBolt account, and it shows up on your SEO Dashboard, a private page that fills itself as you work. It is one URL, so the research follows you between machines and between agents instead of living in one project folder. Saving is free and never counts against your 1,000 monthly credits.

Can I add it by editing a config file instead?

Yes. In .mcp.json, add {"mcpServers":{"contextbolt-seo":{"type":"http","url":"https://seo.contextbolt.app/mcp"}}}. Then open /mcp in Claude Code and authenticate the server. This shared URL is not a secret; your OAuth credentials are stored separately by the client.

How many credits does a question cost?

Research tools (keyword research, difficulty, SERP, domain, ranked keywords, competitor analysis) cost one credit each. Backlink tools cost three each, because that data is more expensive to pull. The plan includes 1,000 a month, and checking your balance is free.

Does it remember what I researched last week?

Yes. Ask about the same keyword again and the answer leads with what has changed since last time, like a difficulty or volume delta, at no extra cost. Memory is automatic and free.
