Ahrefs has the bigger index, its own crawler, and metrics the whole industry quotes. I am not going to argue about the data.
I am going to argue about what happens after the data. Ahrefs tells you the page has a thin title and three competitors covering a question you missed. Then you close the tab and go and fix it somewhere else, from memory.
The gap between knowing and fixing
That gap is where SEO work actually dies. You export the keyword list. It sits in a doc. Two weeks later you write the page and half the research never makes it in, because reopening a dashboard mid-draft is friction and you were on a roll.
ContextBolt closes it by being in the wrong place, deliberately. You do not open an app to do the research, because it runs inside Claude, Cursor or Codex. You ask what the page currently ranks for, what the top results are doing, and what is missing, and then you ask the same conversation to write the fix. The agent has the evidence in front of it.
That is the entire pitch, and it is why “cheaper Ahrefs” is the wrong way to read this page. Cheaper is a side effect.
The full loop, on one page you actually care about
Take a product page getting impressions and no clicks. Here is what a real session looks like.
Connect Search Console and ask which queries that page shows up for. Ask what the top three ranking pages answer that yours does not. Run a page audit. Then check what ChatGPT says when someone asks the buying question your product answers, and which sources it cites.
Those are four different tools and one conversation. At the end you have a change list with reasons, and an agent that can draft it. Every successful lookup saves to your SEO Dashboard automatically, so next week you are not re-running the research to remember what you found.
AI answers are in the $35, not a separate subscription
This is the part that is quietly changing. Ranking third is worth less when the answer above the results already told the reader what to do.
ContextBolt includes AI visibility research in the plan. Historical coverage is Google AI and ChatGPT. Live per-question checks cover ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, so you can ask a real buying question and read the answer, the brands in it and the sources behind it.
Ahrefs has Brand Radar, and it does reach AI visibility through MCP, which we got wrong on this site once and corrected. But Brand Radar AI is sold separately, so the honest comparison is $35 including it against $129 plus another line item.
What $94 a month buys you elsewhere
$35 a month for 1,000 credits against $129 for Ahrefs Lite. Over a year that is $420 against $1,548.
Different tools cost different amounts of credit, so 1,000 is not 1,000 identical lookups. Site audits charge per page audited, up to 50 per run. Your AI app bills you separately for its own usage. The SEO tool pricing guide lays the units out across the market, because everyone counts differently and it is the main way these comparisons mislead.
Ahrefs also sells a $29 Starter plan. Read its caps before you treat that as the number, because it is a different product to Lite rather than a discount on it.
Where Ahrefs still fits
The index is Ahrefs’ job. If you sell backlink audits, quote DR to clients, or have three years of Ahrefs historical reports underpinning your process, none of that moves, and a crawler chewing through 40,000 URLs on a schedule is suite work too. ContextBolt runs on DataForSEO, checks positions when you ask with daily Search Console snapshots for your own pages, and audits up to 50 pages a run.
That is a different job from the one most solo founders and small teams have, which is deciding what to write and fixing the page in front of them. If the index is load-bearing for you, run both. If it is not, $35 covers the day-to-day and leaves the budget for something else.
Try it on one page
Pick the page you already know is underperforming. Connect Search Console, ask what it ranks for, look at who is beating it, audit it, and get the agent to draft the change.
If that takes twenty minutes and produces something you would actually publish, you have your answer. Try ContextBolt SEO free for 7 days with 100 credits. A card is required, and it becomes $35 a month unless you cancel before the trial ends. If the agent side is what interests you, ContextBolt SEO vs Ahrefs MCP is the narrower comparison.
