You are the whole team.
SEO has to fit that.
Priced honestly. What you get for free, what $35 a month buys, and when a $129 suite is genuinely worth it. Only the middle one is ours, and the free one comes first.

- Bing Webmaster ToolsFree keyword research bolted onto a second search engine you are ignoring anyway.

Worth every penny if SEO is your job. Hard to justify if you check keywords twice a month.

Plus however long one page takes to write. Search moves in six-week cycles, so checking it daily generates anxiety and no information.
- 5 min Read what you already rank for Open Search Console and sort by impressions. You are almost certainly ranking for things you never targeted. That list is your cheapest source of ideas, and it costs nothing.
- 5 min Find your page-two keywords Filter to positions 11 to 20. These are terms Google already thinks you are relevant for and just does not trust yet. Moving one of those to page one beats writing something new from scratch.
- 10 min Look at the SERP before you write Search the term. Count how many of the top ten are owned by big vendors selling the thing. Four or more and you are writing into a wall, whatever the difficulty score says. Zero to two and you have a real shot.
- 5 min Check links needed, not difficulty Difficulty scores flatten the one thing that decides it. Look at how many separate sites link to the pages currently ranking. If they average 200 and you have 12, no amount of writing fixes that. Pick a different term.
- the rest Ship one page, then leave it alone One page a month, done properly, beats four rushed ones. Then wait six weeks before judging it. Anything sooner is noise, and rewriting inside the window means you learn nothing.

Common questions.
What are the best AI SEO tools for solo founders?
Start with the free ones. Google Search Console gives you your own real numbers, and no paid tool can improve on those. Add Bing Webmaster Tools for free keyword research. Once you need competitor keywords, backlink data, difficulty scores, or AI visibility you can track over time, that is when a paid tool earns its place. Our own AI visibility checker is free for a couple of one-off checks first. ContextBolt SEO covers that side for a flat $35 a month inside Claude, Cursor or Codex, against $129 for Ahrefs Lite or $139 for Semrush.
Can you do SEO for free as a solo founder?
Yes, for one site, up to a point. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Keyword Planner and Google Trends together will get you real ranking data, keyword ideas and trend direction without spending anything. The wall you hit is competitive data. Free tools cannot tell you what your rivals rank for, who links to them, or how hard a term is to win. That is the only reason to start paying.
Do I need Ahrefs or Semrush as a solo founder?
Usually not, and the honest test is how often you would open it. If SEO is your job, or you bill clients for it, or link building is your main channel, buy Ahrefs. Nothing matches its backlink index. If you check keywords a couple of times a month while shipping a product, a $129 seat is very hard to justify against a $35 one. We wrote the full comparison including the cases where Ahrefs is the right answer.
How much time does SEO actually take for a solo founder?
About 30 minutes a month, plus however long one page takes to write. The routine that works is reading Search Console, finding your page-two keywords, checking the live SERP before committing, and shipping one page. The mistake is treating it as a daily habit. Search moves in six-week cycles, so checking it daily generates anxiety and no information.
What is the cheapest way to do keyword research?
Google Keyword Planner is free with a Google Ads account and you do not have to spend anything to use it. It gives volume in ranges rather than exact numbers, which is usually enough to decide whether a term is worth writing about. Bing Webmaster Tools is also free and gives you exact-ish numbers on a smaller data set. Paid tools buy you difficulty scores and competitor data, not better volume.
Is AI SEO worth it for a bootstrapped SaaS?
It depends on whether your buyers search. Plenty of bootstrapped products sell entirely through communities, X and word of mouth, and for those SEO is a slow second channel at best. Check Search Console for the terms you already get impressions on. If there are none after six months of existing, your buyers are probably not searching, and outbound or community will beat SEO for a while yet.
